What We Do

Inventive Insights brings world-class credentials in data analytics, technology integration and high-risk program management to develop and apply measurably effective approaches to societal threats and opportunities.

Emerging Technology to Solve Complex Problems

Inventive Insights has consulted to the US Government since 2018, providing multidisciplinary expertise in support of counter-terrorism, countering foreign malign influence, information campaigns, and AI regulation. As the West endures an era of unprecedented societal disruption, strategic decision makers must find effective and ethical ways to leverage technology for good governance and solid defense.

Proven Success

In support of a US Government client, Inventive Insights built a national capability to identify, test, and implement technologies against the threat of foreign malign influence – including a suite of programs that the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence praised in its report to the President of the United States as a model for broader government efforts, and that the Federal Trade Commission praised for leadership in innovation in its report to the US Congress. The following are just a few colorful operational outcomes of the system:

  • Initiated the development of Harmony Square, an award-winning online game that was determined by Cambridge University researchers to measurably improve players’ cognitive defenses against foreign disinformation.
  • Initiated the Mystery Synthetic Text Detector 3000 program, an experimental component of counter-“deepfake” technology that analyzes text for indicators of inauthenticity.
  • Initiated the Ukraine Content Aggregator, an AI-enabled system that uniquely brings together malign influence reportage affecting the war in Ukraine.
  • Initiated and oversaw a National Security Innovation Network Challenge, combining multiple data analytics technologies to accurately attribute malign influence campaigns to their Russian originators.
  • Initiated the #PointTaken information campaign against COVID-19 malign influence in Africa, measurably improving vaccine sentiment.

We have supported additional government clients in the development of tech-driven national and international security policy, military strategy, and development of data-rich analytic products.

Who We Are

Inventive Insights is led by J.D. Maddox, an executive, professor and author. J.D. is a former Central Intelligence Agency leader, Deputy Coordinator of the US Government’s Global Engagement Center, advisor to the Secretary of Homeland Security, and US Army Psychological Operations Team Leader. He is an adjunct professor of national security studies at Tulane University and George Mason University.
